Hurricane Names 2017 Eastern US

According to the Old Farmers Almanac, the name hurricane  is from the Native American word Hurakons meaning a great spirit who commanded the east wind. Spanish explorers used the word and named the storms after patron saints.

An Australian weatherman gave a storm the first female name and meteorologists in the military named the storms after their wives/girlfriends. Someone named Bob was the first male recipient of a Hurricane named after him.

Every six years, a whole set of new names is picked by the World Meteorological Organization. Names of very bad storms are never used again. No-one wants a storm to be named Katrina ever again.

*Statistics compiled from MLSMFR -Pasco County.

The numbers seem to be moving up. 1,018 single-family homes sold in the first 3 months of this year is so much better than for the two years earlier. Prices are going up too. Inventory however is still down.

It’s amazing to see subdivisions with only one or two homes for sale had 15-20. I do notice a slowing down of sales in the past month or so and see inventory increasing just slightly (Spring Break and Easter may be the cause). Of course, homes staying on the market makes for more inventory when new listings come on the market.

Time To Fall Back Again This Weekend

Time To Fall Back Again This Weekend

So, here we all are in November and it’s getting dark earlier and earlier each day.  What to do? What to do?

Time To Fall Back Again This Weekend

The powers that be, in their infinite wisdom, are changing the time and having us Fall back so that it will get darker even earlier in the evening; Today’s 7 pm darkness will be Sunday’s 6 pm darkness. But the upside of that is that it will get lighter earlier in the morning.  What is now 7 am darkness will become 6 am darkness; and we won’t have to wait till 8 am to be able to see on the roads.

Did any of that make sense? The good thing is that the children will not be going to school in the dark: so much more safe for them.  We will not be driving to work in the murky half-light of dawn, although going home will be another matter altogether.

Time To Fall Back Again This Weekend

The instructions from those above-named powers that be insist that at 2 am on Sunday morning (Nov 6), you should get up and out of your warm bed and go around the house changing all your clocks from 2 am to 1 am.  This is not the chore that it used to be back before digital clocks but there are still some old clocks around the house , and who wants to wake up at 2 am and get out of bed?

We have even forgotten that it was time to change the clocks and been late for church (gasp).  These days, I put post-it notes showing a clock face with hands on the range, microwave clocks and our alarm clocks (they still don’t change automatically). This is a reminder to make sure that I change the clocks before I go to sleep on Saturday.

Thank goodness, the computer clocks change by themselves. Just need to remember to do the car clocks which is much easier now than it used to be.

This gentle reminder is brought to you by:

Cook’s Antique Museum CARnival 2016

As you may know, we have our very own antique/classic car museum in  the Trinity-Odessa area; and it’s fabulous.  The Cook family private collection of not only antique cars but, also antique everything including radios, record players, soda fountains, gas pumps, an extensive camera collection, hats, jewelry, automotive tools and accessories, and lots of other items.  You will enjoy seeing all of them along with munching on popcorn made by the popcorn popper and ice cream cones.

Cook's Antique Museum CARnival 2016

Mrs. Cook is standing next to the 1915 Studebaker.

Mr. and Mrs. Cook are very active within the Foundation for Early Learning and support them with this event each year.  This year’s event will be a CARnival with rides and special train, pony and wagon rides for the children.

Furthermore, children and their parents will be able to travel back in time and experience some of the past.

Our antique car club, AACA-Richey Region will be there as we always and will be directing visitors and answering questions.  The Cooks are charter members of our club.  This is such a fun day and it’s amazing to see everyone’s reactions when they look at the beautiful cars. You hear things like “my grand-dad had one of those.”

The event is free and donations to Foundation for Early Learning are gratefully accepted.

Where Is Cook’s Museum?

Finally, Cook’s Museum is located at
2445 Success Drive, Odessa, FL. which is off SR 54. Look for the Component General building. You will see the CARnival set up outside. Follow the parking persons directions. Map courtesy of Google.
