Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Pasco County

Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Pasco County. Pasco County has recycling for Christmas trees. There may be different requirements to recycle our once-green friends but if you have curbside recycling you can do it yourself from home.

It seems sad to me that after reigning in splendor in our homes, the tree is just thrown at the curbside.  At the least, it can be recycles or sent for re-use.

One very important caveat: never burn your Christmas Tree in your fireplace or wood stove.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Pasco County

  • First, remove all tinsel, metal hooks, lights and ornaments.
  • Choose a container (plastic bags are not allowed).
  • Put a sticker on it. Get your sticker from the trash service guys.
  • Put out at the curb the night before pick-up day.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree - Pasco CountyIn Pasco County, each year the Recycling Department, Parks and Recreation and some private businesses partner to offer Christmas tree recycling drop offs to Pasco citizens. The trees are chipped and used in our parks to mulch trails and planting beds. The drop off runs from the day after Christmas until  Jan 12 during normal business hours. There are generally 8-10 drop off sites throughout the county.

Questions or Concerns, Contact the Recycling Office:
Central: (813) 235-6012
Westside: (727) 856-4539
Eastside: (352) 521-4285

Or you can remove all tinsel, metal hooks and decorations from your tree and drop it off at one of the following locations during normal business hours. Do this from December 26, 2018 through January 7, 2019.

Pasco County residents recycled 1,272 Christmas trees last year!

Keep Pasco Beautiful says:

Keep Pasco Beautiful is partnering with Pasco County to organize the annual International Coastal Cleanup. Each year, volunteers band together to pick up trash along fragile coastal waterways and in Pasco County streets.

Coastal Cleanup Pasco County
The event attracts hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world who spend a few hours removing trash and debris from beaches, lakes, rivers and inland areas, while keeping track of every piece of trash they find. The Ocean Conservancy uses that information to produce an annual country-by-country, state-by-state index of the problem of marine debris.

In 2016 1,372 volunteers picked up 25.36 tons of trash throughout Pasco County.

There will be teams in locations throughout Pasco County. Sites include Anclote Gulf Park and Strauber Memorial Highway in Holiday; the City of New Port Richey; Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park in Port Richey; Hudson Beach in Hudson; Lacoochee; the City of Dade City; Land O’ Lakes; and Wesley Chapel. Supplies such as trash bags and water are provided. Free t-shirts will be given out while supplies last.

“There are so many people in our community that concerned about the environment,” said Kristen King, Keep Pasco Beautiful Coordinator.

Coastal Cleanup Pasco County is a wonderful thing.

TS Hermine may bring flooding to our low-lying areas so please drive carefully. If a street looks flooded, do not drive onto it. 6 inches of fast moving water can knock an adult down and carry them away. 12 inches of fast-moving water can carry away a small car.

Remember: when flooded, turn around. Don’t Drown.

Pasco County has dealt with some flooded streets and subdivisions during previous storms. Some have been upgraded but some have not.

Those of you who are new to our area, don’t panic. Most areas do not experience flooding. Hopefully, when you bought your Florida home, you checked out the Florida flood zone maps before purchase.

Finally, if you are heading for a shelter, be sure to ask if you can take your pet(s) with you prior to heading over there. Or find a boarding kennel that is accepting pets for the storm period. Read Pet Safety During A Hurricane.
