Who Is Jimmy? Pam Calise told me this.

“I am always asked “Who’s Jimmy?”… Well,  he was my brother, closest friend and partner in crime. He drove me crazy, cracked me up with his sense of humor, lived with me most of his life, aggravated me to no end and I loved him more than words could express. When I lost him, the only thing that seemed to help fill the emptiness was helping dogs…. Thus Jimmy’s Angles was founded. I could not save him, but in his honor, I’ll save as many as I can.”

In fact, Jimmys Angels next adoption event is
Dec. 4 at Tractor Supply Company, 18741 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville,  FL. 34601 from noon to 4pm.  You can find their Facebook page and a pre-adoption form here.

To find a list of their events (fund-raising and adoption) click here.

Finally, Jimmys Angels is run by two very special people, Pam and Dave Calise. Please help support them and their efforts to save lives. They also have a great network of volunteers and foster parents without whom Jimmys Angels couldn’t do all they do.

Scallop Season Is Open

Scallop Season Is Open. Bay Scallops, known for their electric blue eyes, are found in the waters along the Gulf Coast of Florida from Pensacola to the Keys. Found in seagrass beds, they can really scoot when they see you coming. Their means of locomotion is by opening and closing their shells. Bottom dwellers, they can be found in 4-8 feet of water.

Scallop Season Is Open

What are Bay Scallops?

Scallop Season Is Open

Bay Scallops are bivalve mollusks that can only be harvested from July 1 to Sept. 24. This year the season started today. They cannot be harvested commercially and recreational harvesters must have a fishing license.

The harvest limit is 2 gallons per person per day or 1 pint of bay scallop meat per person per person. Total maximum is 10 gallons of scallops (in shell) or 1/2 gallon bay scallop meat per vessel. Scalloping is permitted by hand or dip net.

Scallop Season Is OpenIt is illegal to have bay scallops on waters outside open harvest areas. It is also illegal to land scallops outside open harvest areas. For example, it would be legal to take scallops from waters off the Hernando County coast, but it would be illegal to dock your boat in Pasco County with the scallop catch onboard.

Watch this cute video by Adrian Jiek on YouTube of scallops swimming away.

I have friends who look forward to scalloping season every year! I have never gone scalloping but they say it’s fun! Of course, I would feel sorry for them and release them  🙂

Wear protective gloves, water shoes, hats, sunscreen. Carry lots of water to drink.
