In 2013, Florida had the highest rate in the nation) of unintentional drownings of children under the age of 5. How can that happen, you wonder. But it does, and in only a moment or two.

Firstly,  Number One Rule: Never leave children alone in the pool. Reading a book can cause you to miss things happening right in front of you. Texting or talking on your phone or tablet can be a major distraction – you might as well not be there.

Pool Safety For Children. How to prevent a disaster.

  • Never leave a child alone.
  • Teach children to swim and teach them water safety early.
  • Keep them away from pool drains or openings to prevent entanglement.
  • Learn CPR for children and adults.
  • Look in the pool first if a child is missing.
  • Install and use a lockable safety cover on your spa.
  • Install a 4 foot or higher safety fence with self-locking gates and alarms.
  • consider a surface wave or underwater alarm.
