Anclote Gulf Dog Park in Holiday FL

Anclote Gulf Dog Park in Holiday FL is a furry fun place that is friendly, no-leash, and a great place to take your best buddy to get some exercise and entertainment.

Are Dog Parks Good For Your Dog?

According to the ASPCA, dogs are used to working alongside people; and working hard. Hunting for food was a big part of their lives. Today’s dog spends most of his time alone, sleeps on the couch, and visits the bowl to munch and crunch. They have lots of energy but nowhere to displace it.  They can become bored and overweight which can lead to bad behavior.

Socialization at a dog park can alleviate some of those problems. But says Cesar, do it slowly. Maybe just once a week to start and just a slow introduction. Don’t let him race into a doggy crowd. He will gradually want to move into a social structure and enjoy it.  And it’s great physical and mental exercise for dogs. But only you can decide if dog parks are good for your dog.

People enjoy dog parks too. Socialization with other people is good for many, (especially if they don’t see many people on a daily basis), and the opportunity for some off-leash training is always good for Fido. And it’s a good idea to check out the dog park alone the first time; just to see where he will be playing.

Part of the Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Dept,  Anclote Gulf Dog Park can be found at 2305 Baillies Bluff Road in Holiday, FL.

There have been lots of improvements to the park thanks to a generous donation from a local funeral director and huge dog lover, Thomas B. Dobies.  The dog park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk, so stop by anytime.

We have some very beautiful parks in Pasco County and I hope you’ll take the time to visit them. There are always planned activities for the children. All thanks to our Pasco County Parks and Rec folks.

Healthy Happy Pet In 2016 How To Do It

Healthy Happy Pet In 2016 – you can make it happen with a little research. and your time.

Healthy Happy Pet In 2016: Some things You Can Do.

Wellness Checks  – Just like us, our pets need to Healthy Happy Pet In 2016have the doctor check them over. A wellness check could save you money in the long run if something is found and treated early.  Animals tend to hide their problems well and they age rapidly.

The biggest health issue for pets today seems to be obesity. People tend to overfeed their pets because they love them. There are many diet pet foods on the market; you might want to check with your vet to get the name of a good one.  Or simply try cutting out the “treats” and cutting back on the amount of food you give them.

Exercise is important for your dog and/or cat. (And us). Walking is a great way to strengthen dogs bones and build healthy muscle. Cats  usually won’t want to walk on a leash so the best way to get them to exercise is to play with them; we use a laser light to make our cat run all over; feathers on a stick work too. She chases fuzzy balls without any encouragement from us.

Keep your pet clean and groomed. Brushing makes for a shiny coat, and keeps the skin moisturized. It can help to remove parasites too. Don’t forget those teeth. Brush as often as you can; set a regular brushing date. If a groomer is involved in your pet’s life, have Healthy Happy Pet In 2016them brush the teeth during grooming sessions. Cats love to be brushed too.

Good Job

Now you are well on your way to a healthy and very happy pet. They just love the attention, the little rascals.

Keep Your Pets Safe Over The Fourth

Keep Your Pets Safe Over The Fourth

[A] local Animal Services person interviewed on TV statedKeep Your Pets Safe Over The Fourth that July 5 is the busiest day of the year for their organization. It is the day lost animals are brought in and distraught owners visit looking for their dogs and cats.

Avoid this situation, you don’t want to be one of those people and you sure don’t want your best buddies to be those animals.

Keep Your Pets Safe Over The Fourth

Here’s some tips to Keep Your Pets Safe Over The Fourth

  • Keep your pets inside with the windows closed: the fireworks noise level will be lower. Maybe keep the TV on low (or the radio, my cat is afraid of the radio but not the TV, go figure).
  • Definitely do not put glow jewelry on your pets, or allow them to play with it. the substance can cause excessive drooling and/or gastrointestinal problems.
  • Always keep citronella products (candles, insect coils), out of your pet’s reach. These cause stomach irritation or even central nervous system depression.  Resulting in aspiration pneumonia.
  • Never use fireworks around pets. Lit fireworks are a potential source of burns or face trauma. But unlit fireworks are hazardous too. They contain potentially toxic substances like potassium nitrate, arsenic and other dangerous chemicals.
  • And, DO NOT take your pet to a fireworks display. The crowds and noise can cause them untold distress and trauma. Consequently, they may try to break free (and succeed) from their leash. And off they go.
  • Finally, if the worst happens, make sure you have had your best friend (dog or cat) micro-chipped in advance to make it easier all around.

Have a safe and happy July 4th!
