Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Pasco County

Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Pasco County. Pasco County has recycling for Christmas trees. There may be different requirements to recycle our once-green friends but if you have curbside recycling you can do it yourself from home.

It seems sad to me that after reigning in splendor in our homes, the tree is just thrown at the curbside.  At the least, it can be recycles or sent for re-use.

One very important caveat: never burn your Christmas Tree in your fireplace or wood stove.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree – Pasco County

  • First, remove all tinsel, metal hooks, lights and ornaments.
  • Choose a container (plastic bags are not allowed).
  • Put a sticker on it. Get your sticker from the trash service guys.
  • Put out at the curb the night before pick-up day.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree - Pasco CountyIn Pasco County, each year the Recycling Department, Parks and Recreation and some private businesses partner to offer Christmas tree recycling drop offs to Pasco citizens. The trees are chipped and used in our parks to mulch trails and planting beds. The drop off runs from the day after Christmas until  Jan 12 during normal business hours. There are generally 8-10 drop off sites throughout the county.

Questions or Concerns, Contact the Recycling Office:
Central: (813) 235-6012
Westside: (727) 856-4539
Eastside: (352) 521-4285

Or you can remove all tinsel, metal hooks and decorations from your tree and drop it off at one of the following locations during normal business hours. Do this from December 26, 2018 through January 7, 2019.

Pasco County residents recycled 1,272 Christmas trees last year!

Anclote Gulf Dog Park in Holiday FL

Anclote Gulf Dog Park in Holiday FL is a furry fun place that is friendly, no-leash, and a great place to take your best buddy to get some exercise and entertainment. Here’s a Facebook group page for Anclote Dog Park Pet Parents.

Are Dog Parks Good For Your Dog?

According to the ASPCA, dogs are used to working alongside people; and working hard. Hunting for food was a big part of their lives. Today’s dog spends most of his time alone, sleeps on the couch, and visits the bowl to munch and crunch. They have lots of energy but nowhere to displace it.  They can become bored and overweight which can lead to bad behavior.

Anclote Gulf Dog Park in Holiday FLPhotos are courtesy of Alex of Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources.

Socialization at a dog park can alleviate some of those problems. But says Cesar, do it slowly. Maybe just once a week to start and just a slow introduction. Don’t let him race into a doggy crowd. He will gradually want to move into a social structure and enjoy it.  And it’s great physical and mental exercise for dogs. But only you can decide if dog parks are good for your dog.

People enjoy dog parks too. Socialization with other people is good for many, (especially if they don’t see many people on a daily basis), and the opportunity for some off-leash training is always good for Fido. And it’s a good idea to check out the dog park alone the first time; just to see where he will be playing.

Anclote Gulf Dog Park

Part of the Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Dept,  Anclote Gulf Dog Park can be found at 2305 Baillies Bluff Road in Holiday, FL.

There have been lots of improvements to the park thanks to a generous donation from a local funeral director and huge dog lover, Thomas B. Dobies.  The dog park is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk, so stop by anytime.

TS Hermine may bring flooding to our low-lying areas so please drive carefully. If a street looks flooded, do not drive onto it. 6 inches of fast moving water can knock an adult down and carry them away. 12 inches of fast-moving water can carry away a small car.

Remember: when flooded, turn around. Don’t Drown.

Pasco County has dealt with some flooded streets and subdivisions during previous storms. Some have been upgraded but some have not.

Those of you who are new to our area, don’t panic. Most areas do not experience flooding. Hopefully, when you bought your Florida home, you checked out the Florida flood zone maps before purchase.

Finally, if you are heading for a shelter, be sure to ask if you can take your pet(s) with you prior to heading over there. Or find a boarding kennel that is accepting pets for the storm period. Read Pet Safety During A Hurricane.

Memorial Day Events – Closures Trinity

Memorial Day Events – Closures Trinity. Memorial Day is Monday, May 30; and you may need to know what is closed and what is not before you head out the door on Monday. [2016]

When did Memorial Day change from May 30 to the last Monday in May? (which happens to be May 30 in 2016). In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act which moved 4 holidays including Memorial Day to a specific Monday to create a holiday weekend.

Born out of the Civil War, and originally called Decoration Day, the first one was celebrated at Arlington National Cemetery where Gen. James Garfield made the  first speech. 5,000 volunteers decorated 20,000 graves.

There are 9,505 households with approximately 2.3 persons living in them (I wonder what the .3 is). The ownership rate was 73.8%.
